Obama to name Bayh his VP choice this week?

August 4, 2008

I mentioned to Media Lizzy when I appeared on her Blog Talk Radio show earlier that Evan Bayh could be named as Obama’s VP this week. A couple hours later, I stumble on this via Patterico. It’s OK though, I know this HuffPo guy doesn’t read me.

The top 5 reasons why he thinks Obama will annoint Bayh this Wednesday (no word yet on whether a dove will actually fly from Obama’s hand and come to rest on him):

  1. The Olympics start on Friday and run until the Democratic convention starts. He won’t want to compete with the Olympics for press coverage. He’ll announce before the Olympics starts. If he announces on Wednesday morning, he’ll get coverage all day and be on the news cycle until the Opening Ceremonies knock him off the top spot.
  2. Barack Obama is coming to the state on Tuesday afternoon for a campaign stop in Elkhart, Indiana. He’ll be attending with Evan Bayh. The press has been told to plan on staying until Wednesday afternoon/evening. Why would he spend so much time in Indiana with nothing on his public calendar?
  3. Staying around Indiana allows Obama and Bayh to travel to Illinois, Michigan, and Ohio - all important states in this election. When you’ve just announced your VP, those are states you’ll want to visit - especially since Bayh’s reputation will help the most in those states.
  4. The website ObamaBayh08.com is taken. For a tiny sliver of time late last week, you could type in the URL and you’d be forwarded to another site. Where do you think it took you? The Democratic Party website.
  5. I just got an invite from the Obama campaign to attend an appearance on Wednesday that isn’t on Obama’s official calendar. Why not? The campaign said, “I can’t tell you what the event is about, but we want to make sure you have a ticket so you can cover it for the Bilerico Project. We want Bilerico Project to be there for this one.”

I think it would be a good choice. He can’t choose a black because he would then be the “black ticket” that Bill Clinton alluded to when talking about Jesse Jackson running for President way back when. So he needs to choose a white, but he can’t choose a woman who isn’t Hillary Clinton without causing a firestorm (and we know he doesn’t want her!). So, essentially, he is forced to choose a white male. Bayh is a good fit. He’s older–52–but looks younger. He has executive experience–he served as Indiana’s governor for eight years. Plus he’s been a US Senator since 1996 when he left that office. As Patterico mentions:

[I]t may be that they are looking for the VP pick who plays best with the midwestern voters in Michigan, Ohio, and Penn.  And Bayh was a strong Hillary supporter, so it may be a play for their support as well.

Tune in to The Media Lizzy Show @ 3 PM EST

August 4, 2008

I was on Heading Right Radio with Media Lizzy today, talking about the Santa Barbara protest video and the possibility of having Eric Cantor as McCain’s VP.

Tune in at 3 PM EST!

Wouldn’t see this story if any other network was involved

FOX News Cameraman Helps Rescue Injured Marine From Insurgent Blast in Afghanistan

Two U.S. Marines were badly injured when the improvised explosive device detonated near their convoy. Though FOX News cameraman Chris Jackson was injured in the blast, he went back to the burning vehicle to rescue one of the Marines.

“The cabin was on fire and I jumped out,” said Jackson in a report filed immediately following the attack. “I went, grabbed the sergeant out of the shotgun seat, pulled him out.”

Would an Associated Press reporter do something like this? Doubtful.

Cantor whispers starting to grow

August 3, 2008

Virginia Rep. Eric Cantor is now being vetted by McCain’s VP team, the AP is reporting, and Morrissey over at Hot Air has Cantor fever.

Morrissey lists a couple drawbacks that Cantor would come with, none of which are big enough issues to be deal-breakers. He emphasizes the positives that he brings to the table, and thinks that Cantor would a “very good selection” for McCain to make.

Cantor could boost McCain on a number of fronts. Cantor has rock-solid conservative credentials and is a favorite of the Republican base. He would also provide a little history as the nation’s second Jewish candidate on a major-party ticket, after Joe Lieberman in 2000, and the first Republican. McCain could hope to make major gains in the Jewish vote, especially given the uncertainty surrounding Barack Obama and his long association with Jeremiah Wright and Trinity United, with their pro-Palestinian rhetoric. Cantor is also young, just 45 years old, and an energetic campaigner.

As I’ve already reported, Cantor has already been chosen as McCain’s running mate. I’m just waiting on the official announcement.

Eric Cantor: the VP choice McCain will announce this week

July 22, 2008

Novak is saying McCain will announce his VP choice this week to steal the headlines from Obama’s world tour. Might be true. If he does, the announcement of Eric Cantor as his pick will come as a shock to most in the media.

Eric Cantor?

Even though McCain is meeting with Jindal later this week? Yup.

Even though Mitt is spending a ton to spread the word that he’s at the top of the list? Yup.

My sources say Cantor was picked a long time ago, and it’s easy to understand why. Although he is white, he is the only Jewish Republican in the House. He’s young–45–and a fresh face. He has Romney’s good looks. As a Representative of Virginia’s 7th District since 2001, he’s served as the Chairman of the Congressional Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare and also sat on the House Ways and Means Committee and the House International Relations Committee. Since his second term, he’s served as chief deputy Republican whip, which is the highest appointed position in the Republican caucus. He’s also popular in the Richmond area–in four elections, he’s never received less than 64% of the vote. Also, conservatives should love him, with his 96.86 lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union.

You heard it here first.

Spitting on soldiers: recent anti-American demonstration in Santa Barbara

July 21, 2008

A friend of a friend produced this video, one of the best I’ve seen when it comes to documenting the anti-Americanism of the radical left. Complete with an upside down flag, spitting on an Iraq War veteran and calling him a rapist, it’s sure to make your blood boil. Good gosh, can we please rid our country of this kind of human garbage?

You know, the Left would like to turn almost anything now into a hate crime. Do you think we could get the Dems in Congress to include US servicemen and women in their next piece of hate crime legislation? Imagine if some right-of-center folks had spat all over a LGBT parade. I’d think we’d see a huge cry of intolerance and bigotry from the Left. Why should it be any different when these maggots verbally and physically attack our troops in our own country, whether they are in uniform or not?

Dutch elementary class trip to Mosque goes awry

April 10, 2008

Via Hot Air. What’s wrong with teaching the infidel children they are “dogs,” huh?

THE HAGUE, 09/04/08 - A primary school in Amsterdam wished to provide its pupils with an understanding for other cultures. But during a visit to a mosque, the children were told they were dogs.

With a view to developing understanding and respect for other cultures among children, primary school De Horizon regularly organises outings to various religious organisations. The chairman of the El Mouchidine mosque told the children from group 7 (aged 10) and their chaperones however that non-Muslims are dogs.

In a letter to the children’s parents, the school expresses its regret at the incident: “We are shocked that during the guided tour, the mosque’s chairman told the children and chaperoning parents that non believers were dogs. We consider this statement as unacceptable since we allow our children to partake in this project to develop respect for freedom of religious choice”.

In the meantime, the school’s management has addressed the mosque on the undesirable behaviour of the chairman. Both parties will say nothing further on the matter. “We will resolve the matter amongst ourselves and I have no inclination whatsoever to discuss the matter with the media”, as newspaper De Telegraaf quoted the school’s spokesperson Mariet ten Berge. “We have been to the mosque before and it always went well”.

Angry parents had sent the letter on to De Telegraaf but were reportedly rapped on the knuckles by the school’s management. “The school wishes to play this down. That is precisely the problem”, as one mother commented.

Don’t forget: this is the chairman of a mosque in Amsterdam, no doubt teaching his congregation that all non-Muslims are dogs. I wonder what other wonderfully peaceful things are spewed there when outsiders aren’t present?

John Kerry, vets, and re-election

April 9, 2008

Morrissey at Hot Air has a post regarding John Kerry’s latest shenanigans: trying to convince his constituents that he is pro-troop/vet as we head into November. As Morrissey shows and I noted before regarding the Jason Mattera Winter Soldier II video, it’d be nice to issue Kerry a one-way ticket out of DC this fall.

But why is Kerry making such a big deal about “fighting for the soldiers who fought for us” and “taking care of our veterans” now?

Because he is matched up against a true American, patriot, soldier, and hero this election year.

Jim Ogonowski is a farmer and small businessman from Dracut who recently retired as a lieutenant colonel after serving 28 years in the Air Force and Air National Guard. Jim first came to national attention on September 11, 2001 when the plane his brother was piloting was hijacked and flown into the World Trade Center. In the words of ABC News, Jim “stepped forward when others could only cry.”

After his brother’s death on 9/11, Jim came to the rescue of his brother’s family by working the farm and saving it from being sold.

Service to country has been an Ogonowski family tradition. Jim’s two grandfathers were in the military. All his uncles, his father, brother and sister all served in the service. Jim’s son Charlie, a junior at UMASS – Lowell, is in ROTC and he too will one day be a military officer.

Given John Kerry’s actions and comments over the last few decades, he’s effectively been ridiculing and accusing (bottom of page 3) Jim Ogonowski’s whole family for more than a quarter century.

Alan Colmes encounters Islam, gets called a “Kike”

April 8, 2008

Via Johnny Dollar’s Place. Listen to the whole thing. I’ve always said Alan Colmes is not a real liberal. A real liberal would never bring a radical Islamist on their radio show and confront his hate. They’d bring him on to bash Bush and talk about how wonderful Islam is together.
